Topic: Tradesman's Homes Manningham do they still exist? (Read 212 times)

I have just received the death certificate for my 3x great grandfather, he died at 7 Tradesman's Homes, Heaton Road, Manningham, the informant was his daughter of the same address, year 1887, his occupation was joiner and builder.
Were they built for tradesmen as the name implies and do they still exist today.

Thanks for the info.
By 1891 the daughter had moved from that address, so perhaps the homes were just for tradesmen or retired tradesmen.
Will do some more digging with the Archives in Bradford.

I know it's a bit late now, I have just joined this site. The Tradesmen's Homes in Heaton, Bradford still exist, they are a little oasis of houses and gardens in a very built up area of Bradford. I think they are retirement homes but don't know how people get to live there i.e.trade related.

I don't know whether this would be of any interest to you there is a book listed on www.cdroms.blumham.com entitled Histories of Manningham, Allerton and Heaton by William Cudworth. It is available to purchase for £15.00 as a cd. Tradesmans Homes are listed in the index of this book which is shown on the web site.
It might be worth you taking a look at the web site.

Hi, I'm new too, very addictive. The Tradesmans Homes are still there, they're also called Lily Croft, they are run by a charity. I've been in some of them over the years, was fascinated by their architecture from the first time I saw them and as Stranda said, they are a wonderful oasis in the area, they are hidden away behind the police station in what has become a very built up area of Bradford. There's a lovely description on the charities commission website,

I think a resident told me a few years ago that you still have to meet conditions to apply for one, though hopefully you don't need to be decayed any more.... 
PS just been browsing around (I need to get out more!) and if you click on "account documents" from the link above, then on 2007, there are some fantastic photos of the homes as they are now and a detailed history.

Thank you very much for the link, what a lovely building and so well cared for. Good to know trades people were looked after when falling on hard times, my 3 x great grandfather had his widowed daughter and grandchildren living with him so must have been very difficult.
