1841 1851 John Jervis
« on: Friday 11 April 08 09:49 BST (UK) »

John Jervis and Mary baptised their children in Mucklestone as follows:

Sarah 1828, James 1830, Caroline 1833, Job 1834, and Mary Ann 1837 but there I think is another family of John and Mary who also had children baptised in Mucklestone slightly earlier and I am trying to decide whether there is one or two separate families.

The other family had children Mary 1817, John 1818, George 1819.

I would be most grateful if someone could see whether these one or two families appear in the 1841 or 1851 census records.

Regards

Hi Graham

HO 107/899/5 folio 5 pg 2

John Jervis; 60; joiner; Y
Mary Jervis; 55; Y

This is the same district / area as the other one  Roll Eyes

I should have said that the ages are rounded down to the nearest 5 or 0 but both these John's are about the same age!

Hope you can sort them out!

Wow. Thanks everyone. Looks as if there is some thinking to be done. The Clevis family could be a mistranscription.  Undecided

Looks asa if my assumption of which children belonged to which family was incorrect. Job doens't now look as if he is in the same family as Caroline.

This is most useful. Many thanks. If there is any other records that thrrow some light on this it would be most useful.

Thanks

Hi Graham

I think you might have to go back to the Parish records to separate these out!

There are at least 3 marriages over a 20 year period between a John Jervis & Mary at Market Drayton  Roll Eyes

I had a look on the deaths between census - all Market Drayton district:

Caroline Jervis Q1 1847
John Jervis Q1 1844
John Jervis Q1 1848
John Cresswell Jervis Q2 1841
John Cresswell Jervis Q3 1846
Mary Jervis Q4 1848

Some, all or none of these might be yours!

Not sure about the first, but this looks likely to match 1851....

1841 - HO107 Piece 988 Book: 1 -  Parish: Drayton in Hales, Staffordshire
Township of Almington, reg dist: Market Drayton

John Jervis 30  N (no occ.)
Mary Jervis 30  Y
James Jervis 10 Y
John Jervis 5  Y (image states Job)
Mary Jervis 4  Y

Many thanks everyone for your help in this. Looks as if it going to take a little while to sort out and a  trip to the Record office necessary.

Many thanks
