hi trying to find parents of JAMES BULLMAN,born,1835,SWAFFHAM,NORKOLK. can anyone point me in the right direction please?
in the 1881 census,ihave found out he was married to FRANCIS,maiden name was possibly HILL.

in the 1881 census,ihave found out he was married to FRANCIS,maiden name was possibly HILL.

No one with that spelling turning up in 1881 for me. I assume YOUR DETAILS reflect the 1881 entry accurately? What is the reference? Start by tracing him back/forward through census, also recording who else is with him. Then you identify when the first (if any) kids arrived, and start looking for marriages. Use that info to cross-ref your married man to unwed candidates in earlier census, based on parental info from the certificate of marriage. (dec qtr 1857 vol 2a p 99 )?

Chris there is in 1851 census a James Bullman bn Swaffham aged 12, parents Edward & Ellen. I would be inclined to take this one, PM sent with more details. Edward BULMAN married Ellen AVY 12th April 1831 Swaffham. Tomorrow would have been there anniversary....
