Hi Louisa Maud

Did you know these parishes are available to search online at http://cityark.medway.gov.uk

ADDED  and click Parish registers online to the left of the page.  It would appear from this first page that you can search these documents at their offices

Thank you Rosie, it looks promising , I hope to settle in for a search when I can sit here till my hearts content, just wish they gave dates of individual film instead of me searching through the lot, but hey ho, it might save me a visit

Thank you once again

Hi

Yes it is a bit tedious but I expect you would probably have to look at the same films if you went there.  It has thrown up a few unexpected results for me and its good to find anything free.

Good luck in your search

Hi Rosie
Once I got the hang of these registers I had a good route around, I Think the family I am after must have been non comformists as I couldn't find any of them where they should be, I can forsee a trip to Canterbury coming up although I am no sure if the records are there or Maidstone

regards

Hi

What a shame they weren't on there, still at least that's a few records you won't have to search when you visit Kent. They say on their web pages that not all records are on the database, perhaps they would be able to advise you of anything else they hold.

Perhaps someone else on here has some more suggestions as to where you may be able to view these records.

Finding your way around Cityark certainly gets easier with practise - it's a wonderful online resource. Cheesy

You can download a guide to Kent parish records (not covered by Medway) available at the Centre for Kentish Studies or Canterbury Cathedral Archives from this site:

http://www.kent.gov.uk/publications/leisure-and-culture/guide-parish-records.htm

Non conformist records can be found on the IGI. Try Hugh Wallis batch number site (but it has become out of date) Undecided:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyKent.htm

This is another useful guide as what resources/indexies are available for Kent:

http://www.ancestrysolutions.com/KRPARev2004.html

You could also try:

http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/

Which has records for Methodists, Wesleyans, Baptists, Independents, Protestant Dissenters, Congregationalist, Presbyterians, and Unitarians.  BUT you do have to pay.
