william watson in 1841 census
« on: Saturday 15 January 05 17:30 GMT (UK) »

Hi I am looking for William Watson in the 1841 census of Durham, probably Houghton le spring or Durham area. He would be about 16 years and his parents are John and Mary, although they may not be alive at this time. Any help would be welcome.

hi , there ,

I have the image of the Heppell family in Houghton le Spring..Thos and Mary with 3 Heppell children . Living with them is a William and Thomas Watson aged 12 and 10...the other 3 are 6 , 4 and 2....

I know that William isn't the age you stated but 1841 ages weren't very accurate......A few other Watson families in the area but nothing to match .

This one might although they lived in New Lambton...John and Mary Watson aged 40 and 4?  with 2 Children John 15 and Robert 10...

If you try Durham records online there are 4 William Watsons aged 13--15

Would cost you to view records....
                                                      regards....Joyce

ps I need your email addy if you want the image

Hi, my gggranfather was a William Watson born in Houghton le spring in 1831. He had a brother Richard born 1821 and another brother Robert born in 1840. he married in 1854 to a Hannah Howe and had 8 children, they ended up living in Stockton where he owned a lot of shops and land. I appreciate it is a few years out but is it possible it is the same one! I don't know his fathers name but his mother was definately mary. Father was not on 1841 census so dead or gone.some one found some details on the census for me(please look at Watson family Houghton le spring in durham main section. I have a lot of info on his family If it is the right one.

Hi Sarah,
My William was definitly born in 1825 as I have his baptism record from Durham records on line. As far as I am aware he didn't have a brother called Richard or Robert and he married a Mary Patterson in 1849 so I can safely say we are not tracing the same family. Thanks for your reply though and good luck in tracing yours.
