Littleport choir-master, 1932
« on: Friday 11 April 08 19:30 BST (UK) »

Hi Smiley

It is not very often that I venture down into these parts but I hope someone can provide a bit of help or guidance to a northerner.

I have found the following note in the Barber's Almanack for November 22nd 1932...

"Recent appointment of Mr. George Crickett as choir-master of the High Street Methodist Church."

Can anyone please provide me with any more information about this person or suggest where else I might ask about him in the area ?

I emailed the Littleport Society and also Cambridge Archives and Local Studies (via their respective online “Contact Us” facilities) two weeks ago but have had no response from either.

Thanks

DS,
Am hoping to pay a visit to the Cambridge County Record Office on Tuesday, so will see whether I can find a mention of your man anywhere.  Can't promise anything, though!

Hi Keith Smiley

Thank you very much.

Anything that you can find will be appreciated, as will your efforts even if you find nothing.

Cheers

DS,
It's not been one of my more successful days down the CCRO this morning trying to dig things up for fellow Rootschatters.  Could find no trace of your choirmaster, though did turn up an excellent slim volume of beautifully transcribed baptisms for the Wesleyan Circuit of Littleport 1873-1934, which covered these evocatively-named places: Coveney, Dairy Houses, Little Downham, Mildenhall Rd., Oxlode, Soham, Stretham and Westmoor.  Some are well-known places today, but by no means all of them.
Half hoped I might find him in there as a witness, or having been mentioned for conducting the choir  excellently!  But of course there was no sign of him, sorry.
