HUNT/HEYWOOD Kings Nympton
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 00:12 BST (UK) »

Does anyone have any info on a Bessie HUNT (b.1869) in Kings Nympton. She is shown on 1871 census living w. John and Eliza HEYWOOD as daughter in law. The Heywoods move to Margam, GLAM c.1874.
But what family does she come from?

Thanks,

Big Dave

Hi Big Dave - Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

Daughter in law usually means stepdaughter so my guess is that she was born to Eliza before Eliza married John.

I wonder if this is the marriage, although John's name isn't 100% correct:
Sep 1870  South Molton  5b 747
Eliza Hunt to possibly John Howard

and this would be her birth:
Bessie Hunt
Dec 1869 South Molton  5b 457

Thanks everyone for your hard work - gives me some more ideas for research. This one is curious though: Eliza HUNT lives with the PEARCE family in 1861 when "just up the road" are the HEYWOODs, incl. John, her (presumably) future husband.

Now I've found a record of a marriage between an Eliza PEARCE (see above) and a John HEYWOOD (Jun 1864, S.Molton) However, this is 5 years before Bessie HUNT is born and John is 15 approx in 1864.

Bessie is known as Bessie HEYWOOD by 1881 after they have moved to Wales.

Still a bit more work to do I think!

Hi

I think the marriage of John Heywood to Eliza Pearce in 1864 to early for your John Heywood. In 1861 John is 11 and Eliza Hunt is 15.

I have looked in 1871 again, Looking for other John and Eliza Heywoods, but the only one that turns up with a John b c 1850, is the census that we already have with Bessie Hunt as the d-i-l.

I think for your peace of mind , ordering the birth cert of Bessie would be the way to go. Also the marriage that Tati posted may be the one you are looking for ...Heywood sounding like Howard is a definite possibility.
