Where did Elizabeth appear from?
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 10:46 BST (UK) »

Hi all, another dilemma!
I'm tracing Hannah Harrison from Newburn, born 22 July 1787.
She is clearly on the 1841, 1851 1861 and 1871 census as head of the family together with her sons and daughters, her husband a butcher, Thomas, died earlier and Hannah died 13th April 1871
My dilemma is on the 1871 census she suddenly acquired another daughter, Elizabeth b.1831 (according to census).
Any suggestions where Elizabeth has been for 40 years? Or am I missing something here?
Thank you all

It looks like she's 'Married' - maybe it should be 'Dau-In-Law' - any sons from earlier census you've not traced ?

Thank you Newfster,  now I know it should have been Daughter in Law all is much clearer.
Yes, Hannah had a son Robert b 1829 and married an Elizabeth as shown in the 1861 census.
It would seem on the night of the 1871 census Robert Harrison was in the house with the Harrison children plus Isabella Robson (Mother in Law)
And Elizabeth was staying with Roberts's mother Hannah who I guess was ill as she died 11 days after the census aged 83.
All this was going on in the parishes of Westoe and Harton, South Shields.
Amazing how it comes together...... sometimes.
Thanks again
