Hi All
I'm looking for the birth of Amelia Spurrell b Devonport c1820 (If I've got the right one she was 30 in 1851).
In 1835 a Jane Spurrell, was christened in Stoke Damerel 27/12/1835. Her mother was Amelia Spurrell, single woman living in Devonport.
Amelia Spurrell married in Stoke Damerel Jun Q 1841. There is a John Gray on the same page.
In 1851 Amelia Grey (sp) 32 yo born Devonport, Sailor's Wife, is living in Cross St, Stoke Damerel. Her sister Mary Ann Sparrell (sp) 12 yo is visiting or living with her. HO/107/1881 114 p42
Jane Spurrele (sp) is living with her grandparents John and Eliza Spurrele in Devonport in 1851, along with another grandchild John Gray
Just have to find Amelia & Mary Ann's birth or christening records to tie it altogether now!
Cheers, Jane

Hi Jane
I think Amelia's sister Mary Ann is actually 22 on the 1851 ...what do you think ?
still looking for Amelia in 1841 to see if she is with her parents ...the only one I can spot at the moment is Amelia b 1827 with siblings and parents Thomas and Mary Spurrell in Stoke Damerel

Hi Deb
I've only seen a transcription of 1851, but Mary's age would fit with the 1841 record I've found (HO107/273 20 p34) which shows Mary as 14 - no Amelia though
Cheers, Jane

Hmm.
The 1851 transcription of Amelia's age may be wrong.
1851 shows her as 30 but maybe it should be 38? In 1861 she is 48 and in 1891 she is living with her daughter Emma Rapdon and is 79. This would make her ~23 when Jane was born in 1835, which is much better than ~13 if she was born in 1822!

1881 Amelia GREY servant , wid , 69 working in the Clemits household as a general servant. Admiralty Street, Stoke Damerel.

Yes, I think that could be them, although the Ann Herting 7 is more likely Ann Sterling 75! Eliza's mother
Thanks Deb
