California Holiday starring Elvis was released in the USA October 17th1966
Release date in UK was October 21st 1966
It was known as 'Spinout' in the States and 'California Holiday' in Denmark.
Strange. Looks like a British bus in the background, though

That looks like the cinema frontage in Marlborough Place, just up from the Pavillion. Pete

Hi dinie, Re dating the photo, why not put it onto the photo restoration list of rootschat and in the subject line be sure to use the word "date". I've had wonderful help dating a photo this way. There is one very knowledgeable rootschatter who filters things by the word "date" I suspect so doing this may draw him out. Let us know how you get on,
charlotte

Hi, I'm having second thoughts, I thought it was the Astoria, mainly from the lookof the houses at the side. Browse your way through http://www.terramedia.co.uk/brighton/brighton_cinema_directory.htm and see what you think. Although the photo shown is 1935 and it may have been updated. Pete

Hi Dinie, We are pretty sure this picture was taken on Brighton seafront opposite what was the Savoy cinema, later to become the ABC cinema complex , which has now closed. The Southdown buses ran along the seafront into The Steine bus depot which was called Pool Valley. The bus depot is still there, although modernised. The houses along the seafront can still be recognised as their basic shape hasn't changed. Hope this helps. Babs.

Hi Babs, by the look of the photo on the website I mentioned above the Savoy is a corner site. Looking at most of the cinemas on that site they are built on slopes so that narrows down the choice. Pete

The old ABC cinema had a "side" entrance on the sea-front for many years. I thought it was that one as well, but couldn't find any photos to confirm or deny it.
