Charlesworth Knott and Bowes
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 17:17 BST (UK) »

Hi,
Can I get any information on a great aunt.
Alice Knott (my grandma's sister). She was born1888 to
William Knott and Rebecca Parkin in Sheffield. She married Arthur Bowes (cant find a marruage)who was said to be part of the Lyon Bowes very distant reations to the Queen. She moved to America I remember her Visits. When Arther died she moved back to Sheffield and she died in 1964 at Bannerdale Sheffield.I think she was his second wife.I have lots of photos but cant put a real name to him.
Arther Bowes was said to be a Maniging Director of The Ford Motor Group in America.

Regards Brenda

The problem is...... we have no later census's to search. Roll Eyes

When you say you cannot find a marriage, have you searched year by year the complete bmd  index Huh

Or could it be that they married in the USA I wonder  Undecided

I haven't seen the original, but this is likely to be Oborne St, Brightside Bierlow

Brenda, I can see the following on the U.S.A. 1930 Census

1531 Sixty First, Avenue,
Cicero, Cook, Illinois

Arthur Bowes / age 49 / b. England / Foreman - Machine Shop
Alice Bowes / age 44 / b. England

They own their own house - value $8,000

I don't know if this is any help.  Information from Ancestry

This should help narrow it down Brenda

According to the Fee BMD the years 1898 - 1909 are 100% transcribed.Which does not help us in the case.  Roll Eyes

1910 - 1929... the only complete years are 1910, 1913, 1915, 1918 and 1919.

Also the March quarters of 1922, 1925, and 1927 are also complete,

So all the other years need to be searched from the complete index's.

Just as a word of caution ....it does state  the percetages coverage is only an estimate   Roll Eyes

Given that they are both 49 in 1930 and you think that she was his second wife, I would be inclined  search backs from 1929  as they would be older rather than you when they married
