William PATTINSON & Elizabeth WALKER
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 17:28 BST (UK) »

Good afternoon,

William PATTINSON, born 1805 in Skelton, Guisborough, married Elizabeth WALKER on 29th April 1823 in Guisborough.

William died very young, on 10th April 1830 and is buried in St. Nicholas's church, Guisborough

William & Elizabeth appear to have had 3 children:

- Thomas born 1824
- William born 1826
- Elizabeth born 1828.

Elizabeth WALKER was probably born in Guisborough c1801, parents William WALKER & Ann ? but I'm not totally sure.

If anyone could throw any light on the marriage details (maybe at St. Nicholas's) or confirm the names of their respective parents I would be very grateful.

As far as I know, Elizabeth (widow) re-married John SUDDICK in 1840 in Guisborough.

Many thanks for any help.

Hallo Jane,

That would be very charitable of you ! As my chances of getting anywhere near Guisborough are pretty remote I would be very grateful.
I'm not sure if there is a headstone, but the answer is probably "yes" as I was given the information by a distant "cousin".

I would like to know why he died so young, but doubt if that info would be on a headstone.

You may very well find that there are quite a few PATTINSON's there as the family seems to have bred and multiplied in Guisborough for some considerable time !

Thanks very much for your offer. Send me a personal message when the time comes, and I'll give you my mail address.

Well if the weather stays like it is today I will pop over tomorrow morning for you, as I have a football free Sunday - one match left and then the cricket season starts  Grin

Do you know anymore re the Pattinsons??

When mum goes to the records office next I will ask her to have a look at the Guisborough book, see if we can help a bit more.

Well, as it happens to be my family name, I do know quite a bit about the family !

My grandfather (Frank Pattinson)was born there in 1892, as was his father and grandfather before him.

My great grandfather was called William (born 1847). He married Mary WRIGHT in Guisborough in 4thQ 1871.

William's father was called Thomas, born 1824, who married an Ellen HARRISON in 1846 but in Upleatham.
Ellen died in 1876 and she, too, is buried in St. Nicholas's apparently with husband Thomas as well as 2 of their daughters.
(I had this information from a distant cousin in Oz !)

I very much appreciate your kind offer of help as I'm doing all this from the depths of France !

Many thanks for anything you can come up with that will help fill out my records.

Nick

PS: You have hit the right button with your last post.

William born 1805 was, I think, the father of Thomas born 1824. I have Edward and Margaret WARD. She was from Brotton, but I don't as yet have where Edward was born nor his date of birth, which I estimate around c1765. They married in Brotton and seem to have had at least 6 kids, all born in Skelton. Margaret was the 11th of 13 children it appears. That's as far back as I've managed to go so far !

Hi

If you look at this old post you will be able to see a picture of Upleatham church that I took last year.

I can go to both as they are very near to each other, I work in Guisborough and drive home via Upleatham so it's no problem

This is what is says on the stone four sides with numerous names on it, if you send me a PM I will email the photographs I have.  Might be an idea to contact Redcar and Cleveland Council, cemeteries dept, and ask for some grave numbers, that way I can go back with my map and have another look.

Died March 5th 1885
Also
