I am in search of Richard Lock of Islip, Oxfordshire 1690's.
This is likely one and the same Richard Lock of Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire.

See my post at the gloucestershire forum.

Morning again,
Had another deeper look at Islip this morning after reading your Gloucestershire forum piece, no sign of a marriage of Richard and Mary in Islip, in actual fact the register shows'No Marriages recorded between 1679 and 1693'. The first LOCK marriage I could find in the index was that of Elizabeth -
GROVES, Henry, m. LOCK, Elizabeth Aug 29 1667, Londoners. The next one was that of Matilda in 1875.
Having noted 'Romanies' I will have a look at the OMI for you later this morning.
Cheers for now,
George.

Back again,
Checking the OMI for Richard LOCK marriages to Mary's I found :-

Married at Noke - to HOWSE, Mary,- 10 Oct 1649.
Witney- MOTT, Mary,- 2 Jul 1700.
                 Eynsham-SMITH, Mary, 24 Feb 1722.
Hanborough- WOOTON, Mary, 3 Nov 1728.
Witney- SUMMARSBEE, Mary, 13 Feb 1736.

None of which would appear to tally with your info.
Sorry best I could do.
George.

Hi George
Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated! Smiley

Thing is, I can't be certain the Richard Lock of Islip is one and the same Richard Lock of Ampney Crucis.
The Richard Lock of Ampney Crucis is the one I am fairly certain is my US immigrant.

But, there is another Richard Lock of Islip in the IGI records but does not mention a wife's name.
So between 1687 and 1694 Richard Lock has 4 children christened with no wife mentioned.

Then a Richard Lock & Mary have 2 children christened between 1698 and 1700. Are the one and the same Richard? or 2 seperate Richard's? I can't be certain.

But the Richard Lock and Mary Eldridge of Ampney Crucis is the people who I am convinced are my US immigrants.

I read on a web site that didn't have any sited sources, which mentioned that Benjamin Dixon of Calvert County Maryland married a widower who was formerly a Miss Eldridge, suposedly a sister to Mary Eldridge.

I have contacted that web page owner and they weren't able to site one record to me to prove that information.
I was told they got that information 2nd hand. So I have a lead, but not a solid lead.

If in fact Mrs. Dixon's maiden name is Eldridge, and is a sister to Mary Eldridge wife of Richard Lock, that explains why Benjamin Dixon was closely associated with Richard Lock in Maryland. They would have been brother in laws.

You might drop by my web pages to see what I have transcribed so far. The web pages are constantly being updated as new reliable sources are transcribed.
The death index is being transcribed now and will be added to the pages in the near future.
