I'm looking for the Rev.Thomas Bowman Stephenson, Church Street, Lambeth who opened a Children's Home there in 1869 before moving to Bonner Road, Bethnal Green in 1871. In 1881 there was a Willie Williams aged 13 living there born London, Middlesex and I was hoping he was there in 1871 as well. The William Edwin Williams I'm looking for I know was an orphan and I have been able to find him in the 1901 & 1891 censuses aged 34 and 24, born Camberwell. Unfortunately I don't know when he was orphaned and think it may be him in the Children's Home as his occupation was a Printer/Compositor which was a trade the boys were taught.
Any help gratefully received as this is a difficult one!
Dijon.

Hello CaroleW,
In the 1891 census he was aged 24, occupation Printer/Compositor born Camberwell, Surrey with Lambeth, Surrey added above. He was a lodger residing at 44 Paradise Road, Lambeth.
In the 1901 census he was aged 34 same occupation, born Camberwell living at 17 Trollope Street, Battersea with his wife and children.
I forgot to mention I've just got his Marriage Certificate dated May 29th, 1892 and his Father is listed as Richard Williams, deceased, Tin Plate Worker. William Edwin Williams is aged 25 on the certificate. I thought it would make my job easier getting the marriage certificate but the only Richard Williams I can find in 1871 with a son called William is a Solicitors Clerk, living Peckham, Camberwell. His wife was a widow by 1881 but William seems a bit young.
The only other information I've been given is that he was an orphan and died in 1939 in his 70s. I assume that if he knew his Father's name then he would also know his age and where he was born. I've found a possible birth for him in March 1867 in Wandsworth which would tie in with the other dates so I might have to resort to another certificate if nothing else can be found.
Kind regards, Dijon

Hi
I have found Thomas in 1861 in Norfolk - unmarried Wesleyan minister
I cannot find him in 1871 but his wife Ellen and daughter Theodora were living in Bolton in 1871. Ellen is shown as the "wife of the Rev T Bowman Stephenson"
The family were in Bethnal Green in 1881

Thank you CaroleW,
The Rev.Thomas Bowman Stephenson should have been either in the Lambeth or Bethnal Green area but then again he could have been travelling at the time.
I've just ordered what I hope is the right birth certificate for William Edwin Williams.
Kind regards, Dijon.
