Hi I received information  from Volume 44 Portsea #HO107/1657/186
I have information  on Thomas Chestle age 29 born Chichester, Sussex and a Thomas Chestle age 5 born Chichester, Sussex but  I haven't got a clue as to which year this volume refers to.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi polly,

This would be the 1851 census.

I'm sorry but I am unable to look it up for you, but that's what it means.  Volume 44 refers to the index volume number for Hampshire for 1851.  (In case anyone doesn't know what the rest of it means, H0107 is the PRO reference number, 1657 is the piece number and 186 is the folio number.  Wink )
