Brethren in NZ « on: Sunday 13 April 08 04:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find info on the Brethrens in NZ, particularly from Palm Nth c. 1900 - 1940's. They may have been the "Closed" Brethren. Has anyone done any research on them. I believe that they may have bee anti illegitimate children and what would have happended with one? - long shot.
Thanks

Several members of my own family (distant, I should add) were in the Exclusive Brethren here in Australia. Alan is on the money when he suggests they might be hard to get information from
However, there are plenty of websites out there offering info from ex-members' perspectives, so although they will almost undoubtedly be biased, some of them might give you an idea of what could have happened to an illegitimate child and its mother. I suspect they were probably outcast from the sect and possibly from their family, depending on how strict the family was.

Mmm ... I'm now thinking that the Open Brethren sect might be a better line to follow up on ? (Surely the EB would have kept such a scandal "in-house" ... and unknown to the outside world) ?
