can anyone find what happened to these children
« on: Sunday 15 June 08 08:50 BST (UK) »

Ernest William Gower b. 1876 Cheddington and his sisters
Emily Rosetta 1878 and Elizabeth Maria 1880
ive a possible marriage to either Ada Ann or Eliza Elizabeth Saunders in 1900 but cant confirm its definitley him. there is a Judith Saunders already in the family but much much older. all at home in 1881 with parents.

John Turner b. 1866 Eaton Bray Beds and his siblings Herbert 1871 and Jane E 1876. again all at home with parents in 1881.

or finally Jesse Turner born Ivinghoe Bucks 1862 also at home in 1881 with widow dad.
any information would finalise these lines and i can move on.

   Hi Kas ......

you can look for 1891 census for Bedfordshire free here .....

  www.freecen.org.uk

it also covers Cheddington though in Buckinghamshire its registration district is Leighton Buzzard.

I can help with Cheddington Parish records as I have a copy.

ok thanks now i can look for Mary.
this family is humungus and seems to be spread out over a 20 mile radius. but lots living next door to one another too
i THINK i got all the Cheddington lot but can you explain why sometimes Lieghton Buzzard is in Bucks and somtimes in Bedfordshire and sometimes even described as Herts or Oxford? the census reports dont always seem to make sense. did they keep moving the borders around.

Cheddington is in Buckinghamshire right in the corner of  the county border. Tring down the road is Herts. Leighton Buzzard is Bedfordshire. Leighton Buzzard is the largest town  within this radius of Cheddington so all births deaths & marriages although in Cheddington Bucks will have Leighton Buzzard as the reigistration district. The three counties converge near Dagnel 8-10 miles south west of Cheddington.

thnaks for that explanation. that explains why the family live in so many different counties but yet can visit each other regularly.
its like that where i live. within a 20 mile radius you can be in Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincs, or Cambridge !!

Tazzie

I notice that you have a copy of Cheddington PR's.

Would it be possible to see if there are any Varneys there, please? either bap/marr/death.

I understand that a Susan Grubb who became a Varney was confirmed Cheddington 6th March 1856, and  Edward Viccars Varney confirmed 5th March 1901, I have been told that this confirmation 'went wrong' whatever that means.
