MIDLANE, THOMPSON Portsea, Bedhampton
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 13:58 BST (UK) »

I have a marriage (from Hampshire Allegations for Marriage licences) for
John MIDLANE, of Bedhampton, Esq, and Jane THOMPSON,OF Portsea, at P, 8 Aug 1801

Does "at P" mean at Portsmouth or at Portsea?  I have looked at Knightroots' transcriptions and can't find it.

Any other information about their parents etc would be great.  They lived at Bedhampton and later at West Camel, Somerset and Mere, Wilts and perhaps at Eling.  I have information on their children.

Many thanks to all on this great site.  I have had so much help and learnt so much!

I can confirm that John and Jane married in Portsea on 8 Aug 1801.  Knightsroots transcriptions are not complete, but the marriage does appear on the IGI and I found it from another source.

No parents' names are shown at that date.  Have you any idea of the names of the parents or where the pair were born?

No idea of where she was born, apart from the mention that, at marriage, she was of Portsea.  I think her father's name was George Anson Thompson but have no idea of where he is from, although there is a connection with the Poore family from Andover.

I do know that the groom's family had the mill at Bedhampton in the mid 1700s,  There is a wonderful book of Catholic registers which I have found in a library which has a great deal of information because the Catholic population is relatively small.
From this book I am fairly sure I have his parents' names, and mention of siblings in the Bedhampton/Emsworth area.  There is a wonderful book of Catholic registers which I have found in a library which has a great deal of information because the Catholic population is relatively small.

Many thanks, this site never fails to amaze me!
