Have been going through the parish records for Easington and Liverton. Have found entries for my family and place of abode is "Barnes". Hope this isn't as in haystack. Was wondering if anybody is able to tell me where this place may have been or what it was, perhaps a farm.

What date are we talking about? You may well be able to find it on the census enumerator's route after 1841 or a large scale map of the area might show it. Are there others in the register who live there? That might indicate that it is a hamlet if so, though they did have several families in one house quite often. Andrea

Hi Andrea,
I"m talking around 1816-17. I went through the 1841 census for loftus, as some of mine were born there. Didn't find Barnes. Would have thought if it was a farm, it would state Barnes Farm. There were some other people stated to be living at Barnes. When I go back this week to LDS I will go back over it and find their names and see if this can give me a clue. The maps I have seen have not helped I am afraid.

Hi Val,
I remember delivering furniture/parcels to Barnes Farm in the 70's
I recall that it is at the top of Boulby Bank near Rawcliffe or Rockcliff.
It's near the sound mirror I think.
1841 /Yorkshire/Easington/Lofthouse/District 3 (page 1)
HO 107/1255/5
Loftus Council offices used to have a good map of the area. (I might still have one, I'll look for it.) Cleveland Archives may have a copy.

Hi George,
Yes you are correct, after going through PRs again and with the help of a friend from Whitby, I now have photos of Boulby Barns Farm. We are certain this is my Barns, fits in perfectly. Am now trying to find anything with the history of this place particularly around early 1800s. Thanks for your interest and reply.
