Hi Poppyann,
I've had a look on the Surrey Marriage Index which mostly covers rural Surrey & it's not there so maybe it was in Metropolitan Surrey, Lambeth or Southwark.  Also looked on Pallots but no luck  Sad

Thanks for looking Jane. Someone found the marriage in Croydon. Now I am looking for the birth of Eleanor Humphrey his wifes parents she was born abt 1808 in Beckenham. I have posted this on the Kent board.Poppyann

I now have found a marriage for John Pearce and Eleanor Humphrey -20/5/1825 St John The Baptist Croydon. Would parish records show parents and or witnesses? is so could anyone help me please. Poppyann

I'm just a little curious as to your source about the marriage as 1825 John the Baptist marriages in Croydon should appear on the Surrey Marriage Index but it doesn't  Huh
I doubt whether the information about parents would appear on the parish records, witnesses might though so it's worth having a look.

Taken from the BVRI it might mean who ever transcribed for the index could not read the entry in the register.

HUMPHREY, ...   
Female
Christening Date:3 Jul 1808 Beckenham, Kent
Father:Thomas Humphrey
Mother:Mary

You would have to see the actual register to try and confirm whether it could be Eleanor/Ellen or some other name. This is the only baptism in the BVRI index for Beckenham for Thomas and Mary.

Ahhh, now I see it  Smiley  The name was PEARSE & it was 1827 not 1825...no wonder I couldn't find it.
