I have a great aunt I believe emigrated to New Zealand.
Nora was born Nora Finnegan in Glasgow 1903 but was known as ' Stevenson' which was her fathers name.
I believe she emigrated to Christchurch and may have married a man named Louis. His surname may have been Nielson. He was a chef I believe.
Any help is really appreciated.

Omg Terry thank you so much for this............ I never met him but I remember seeing pics of him from newspaper cuttings........he cooked for the Queen Mother or something like that many years ago.
All I know is that Louis was an uncle of my fathers but I have yet to discover who Louis parents were. I put two and two together and came up with the idea that he was Nora's spouse but now that doesnt seem likely.
But still a fantastic result thank you so much.
Now, do you by any chance know how I go about getting any more info on Louis?? As in his address so that I can find out more about him.
thanks again Terry

Hello Terry,
Norah Nielsen is in the same plot as Louis. The council must have missed putting her in the index but if you search just on Norah you will find her. She died 17 Aug 1987, buried 19 Aug 1987, and described as a widow.
Regards, Jean

Jean and Terry
Thank you so much for this. What a brilliant result. I thought maybe I had put 2 and 2 together and made 5 but I was right after all - that Nora had married Louis.
What I need to check now is for marriage records. I will double check on Scotlands People but I found nothing last time I checked.
Do you know if there is an on line Database where I could check for any children born of them in NZ.
I'm absolutely delighted to have pieced this bit of the jigsaw together. My younger brother was named after Louis so it's nice that I can place him on my family tree. Jean, I dont suppose there was an address for Norah
Any advice re where I go from here is very much appreciated.
Warmest regards
Moira

How do I get a copy of their mc/dc etc??
Can I get in on line as you can with Scottish People??
Thank you so much.............everyone. This means a lot to me.

Hi Bren
Yes it does sound Scandinavian and as they married in NZ I guess they met out there.....this is when you wish you had started all this years ago. My dad is dead and no one around to ask all these questions.
I have found a possible match on genes reunited for Louis so who knows what that might show.
Nora's mother was Irish and an intriguing woman........three illegitimate children to the same man and worked as a theatre barmaid and then a Lady's Companion. I've yet to find her bc tho I have found her parents mc. I think she lied about her age and thats made it difficult to find her on the Irish Records. So its great to have made this progress ..........all in a few hours too!
