Deaths - John & Sarah HAINES
« on: Monday 14 April 08 18:58 BST (UK) »

John and Clara Haines were last recorded living in Hertingfordbury, Herts in the 1841 Census aged 60 and 56 respectively.

Can someone tell us when they died. Would these records give their place of birth?

Hi Jane,

Places of birth will not be on their death certificates; this was only added in recent times.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com  has a death registration for a Clara Haines:

Clara Haines  Sep 1856   Hertford  3a    164  Could this be your Clara?

Hello Nanny Jan

Thanks. Yes it could be, if only we could find her in the 1851 Census, we would be more sure. Presumably the early death certificates just stated the name of the deceased, no mention of age or spouse?

Hi Jane,

The age would be on the death certificate; where and when they died, the cause of death, occupation (for women it was wife/widow of.........) cause of death and the name and address of the informant (usually a family member).

In my collection of death certificates I have spouses, parents, brothers and grandmothers as the informants.

Have you asked for a look-up on 1851 census?  Often another pair of eyes spots something!
