I am not going to tag this on to my original request for help with burials at St Mary's Ilford but this comes out of my research and it just may be useful to anyone searching.

I did manage to get to the ERO and look at the original ledger for burials in St Mary's Gt Ilford, in the ledger there is a note by the side of a few burial details, it states c/yard, initially I didn't have a clue as to what this meant, I have since found out that there is an Ilford cemetery quite near to St Mary's church, it is now called Buckingham Road cemetery, 3 of my people are buried in this cemetery and not in the churchyard  even though there names were in the ledger. So if anyone is searching St Mary's Ilford and sees C/yard then they will be buried in the churchyard if not they will be in what was called Ilford cemetery, Buckingham Road right by the church I am led to believe

regards

I only found the cemetery by googling, I was looking for a contact for St Mary's church.
I lived in Seven Kings for about 2 years, passed a church on my way to work along Ilford Road every day, I assmed this to be St Mary's, I never once noticed a cemetery there.. I had a nice message from the incumbent who was helpful but my family are not buried in the churchyard, the burial ground I think might be almost adjacent. I have a plot number now, I have been told by the people up keeping this cemetery that it will be difficult to find, I am planning a trip there as soon as I can get my husband motivated, I am sure there will be a grave stone as I want the inscription

So if anyone out there is searching they might ned to search the churchyard as well as the cemetery

Thanks for your reply Sirius

Hi Sirius
I have now visited St Mary's church and the adjoining cemetery, found the grave I was researching, still standing after the last person was buried, 1934.
for almost 2 years if I missed my bus home from Ilford Lane to Seven Kings I would often walk, on Saturday we drove along from Seven Kings where the bus garage was, (now a huge Homebase), how it has changed, I hardly recognize it after 40 years, but it was nice to reminisce

Thank you for your impute

regards

Hi louisa maud,

Bus garage went a long time ago maybe around 25 years. Have not lived in Ilford for 15 years, it has
changed so much not aways for the better.
