George Thompson b.c.1848 at Wark, confirmed son of Ralph Thompson
« on: Tuesday 15 April 08 10:22 BST (UK) »

Can anyone trace George Thompson in the 1851 census please?
His father, Ralph, was named in George's marriage entry.

I cannot find the family in 1851 ancestry.co.uk census, and have no access to any other source.

George shows in the 1871 census in Scotland where he gives Wark as his place of birth.
I need a birth parish for Ralph.
I might have him in 1841 census at Wark b.c.1814.
Thanks in advance - frek.

Hi - Free BMD has the death of a Ralph Thompson, in June qtr 1844, in Bellingham registration district, which would have included Wark.

MODIFIED: But that doesn't fit with the birth date for George, sorry.

It could be Ralph's death  as I have been unable to trace him in 1851 - and might have him in 1841.
And George was not with his parents in 1851.
Thanks for your help.

Hi all  Smiley

Spanner in the works  Undecided

The 1861 census shows a George Thompson age 13 with parents Edward and Ann. Tracing the family back to 1851, Edward was married to an Isabella and George wasn't at home so I think that's the boy found above  Undecided

(EDWARD THOMPSON - ISABELLA STOREY - Marriage 01 APR 1837   Wark On Tyne, Northumberland, England)

What Ralph's occupation shown on the marriage cert, and who are the witnesses?

Frek - can you clarify this? Do you want information on Wark-on-Tyne or Wark on Tweed?

Sorry about delay.
It was Wark on Tweed. George married in Scotland so it is confirmed that his parents were Ralph and Elizabeth Davison.

There is a Ralph in the 1841 census who I think could be George's father.
I have been unable to trace Ralph's marriage - Scotland or England.

Thank you to all repliers for help and advice.
