Hi there,
Having serious difficulties in tracing my great grandfather, Henry Smith.
I have him as being born in Beckington around 1843.
However, I've been unable to find him on either freebmd.org.uk or familysearch.org.
The closest entry is for a Henry Smith born at Frome between April and June 1845.
I'd be very grateful if someone could have a look at the Frome entry when/if they have the time.

Is this the Henry who married Ann Potter?
Do you have him on the 1881 census?
His place of birth is given as Beckington, Wiltshire
Wonder if that is a mistake and it should be Bratton. That puts him in the Edington Westbury area etc
Do you have their marriage cert with is dad's name on it?
I'll come back to this tomorrow when you have read the Ann Potter entries

Just had a little 'google' and there is a place in Wiltshire called Beckingham..
which presumably registers in Frome Somerset just to confuse everyone - well, me, anyway!

The Beckington baptism records aren't online, but their marriage records are (http://www.gomezsmart.myzen.co.uk/religion/prs.htm)
You might find this entry of interest as well:

there is no henry smith baptised in beckington between 1842-1848 there is however a thomas henry smith baptised 23 jan 1843 parents jacob and mary fathers occupation miller is this your man?

Hi Guys,
Just a line to thank you for the information you've posted on this thread.
Unfortunately, I've been offline for almost two months due to family illness and bereavement.
My Dad, sadly, but with great courage, passed away on Tuesday, May 27th after a short illness. 
As you will no doubt understand, I haven't felt much like going on-line, added to which I just haven't had any spare time.
In the coming weeks I will take the time to read, and, hopefully, track down the information you have SO kindly provided.
Rest assured, I'll have more questions to pose which, given my family tree, so far, will, probably not, have any easy answers.
