Hi there everyone!
We are researching our family tree and have totally lost one of ancestors. His name is Herbert Tivey born 1878 in Burton upon Trent Staffodshire to parents Joesph Tivey & Sarah Frogson. He was found in the last census in Britain in 1901, but we have since lost track of him. Distant relatives tell us that he emmigrated to Canada, married and died there, we are unsure whether he had any children or not. We are also unsure of whether he entered Canada directly or arrived via the USA. Any information will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
Many thanks Jan Tivey

Hello
I have not been able to find a Herbert Tivey in Canada but I have found a Sidney Tivey born 1881 living in Alberta. At some time he moved to Minnesota, USA and he died in Florida. His son also Sidney Tivey was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1911 and died in Minnesota in 1990.
Any connection?
Good luck
Thelma

Hi Jan,
I don't know if you have managed to find your ancestors who immigrated to Canada or not, but thought you might be interested in knowing that the 1911 Census for Canada is now online, but has not yet been transcribed. If you know the area, you can search, sheet by sheet. It can be found on the National Archives site for Canada. The link for the site is: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/
Or
Keep a lookout at the Automated Genealogy site at: http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html
This is the site that transcribed the 1901 Census for Canada as well as the 1906 Census for Central Canada. They will eventually transcribe the 1911 Census.
Hope this helps.
Janice

A Herbert J. Tivey was married 1937...in U.S....not unheard of to marry late in life...could send for the marriage cert from there, as it could even have been a son? Under the 1937 listing: http://library.uml.edu/clh/MarInd.Html

Hi Thelma
It has been a VERY long time since you posted this but at the time I was a bit of a rootschat and indeed a genealogy virgin
If you can give me any info at all on Sidney in Alberta (and his son) who ended up in Minesota I would truly appreciate it.
Much Love Jan
