Can anyone tell me which district Stoke Gabriel is in? i.e. From which district office can I order a copy of a birth certificate for a birth in Stoke Gabriel in 1852, preferably online? I cannot seem to find a resource which clarifies this.

You can also order directly from the GRO website, Alan (sometimes easier when you don't have a bank account in England)

Edit: I see Martha Susanna was registered in Totnes in Mar 1852. FreeBMD doesn't have an exact page number. Am checking the original to see if I can make it out.

Stoke Gabriel was in Totnes registration district until 1867 and in Newton Abbot registration district from 1868 on

I may have to fall back on the GRO website as you suggest. Even if I can figure out which current district is the right one, I can't necessarily find the link to order a birth certificate. Maybe there aren't any.
