Marriage please Workington St Michael, 1857
« on: Wednesday 16 April 08 22:44 BST (UK) »

Hi,

I'm asking for help on behalf of somebody just starting out who can't find a marriage between Robert Fleming & Chritina/Christiana [surname unknown] 1850 - 1860 in the Workington / Carlisle area.

The only 'northern' Robert marriage in the GRO for whom I haven't identified a spouse is Robert Fleming 1857 Q3 Whitehaven RD 10b/591. The page number 561 refers to St Michael, Workington so I’m hoping 591 is also in this register.

Robert and Christina lived and had children in Workington and a Wright family were neighbours for some of the time but the problem is that the FBMD lists the 2 possible spouses as: Elizabeth Daily and Lydia Wright.

The GRO also indexed Robert under Heming so I'm wondering if 'Lydia' may originally have been an abbreviated form of Christina.

Huge thanks.

Ruth

It looks to me as if Lydia may have married William DONALD - they were in Harrington in 1861, a middle aged couple.  This appears to be correct, as a Lydia WRIGHT was lodging in Harrington in 1851, a teacher.

Robert and Elizabeth FLEMING were in Great Clifton with a young child in 1861 - next door to another Robert FLEMING (father?).

I assume "your" family is in Workington in 1871

Christina FLEMING (wid) 38 AgLab, Inverness
plus kids.
Looking at the birthplaces of the kids, you have to consider the possibility of a wedding in Scotland (although I can't see one before 1868 Sad )
