I would like some help please in finding more about Samuel Hall b 1790(parents Samuel Hall, victualler and Ann Watts) of Chipping Sodbury.
In 1815, Samuel jnr was listed as of Chipping Sodbury and a farmer on the administration of his father's estate.
I have checked Directories to no avail. On Freebmd I found a death in 1838 for the Chipping Sodbury District, but before I go to the expense of getting this death certificate and in case it is a child, I would appreciate help and suggestions.
I would like to know if anyone has access to Chipping Sodbury records which might show if/when he married, had children and died
If these events occurred in Chipping Sodbury, I can then eliminate this Samuel Hall as my ancestor for another Samuel Hall.
Thank you. Gazania

Hi Gazania,
You can apply for the death certificate, and use his age and occupation as checking points, then if they do not match you will get £4 refund.
Perhaps look for Samuel's Will?

Thanks for those suggestions. I have checked for his will but the indexes available to me may not go late enough yet. I am just hoping someone might have access to Chipping Sodbury burial records. I have been researching my Hall family since 1994 but you would think I would have learned some patience by now. Gazania

Gazania,
I've sent you a P.M. but forgot to mention d-certs but as they might be of general interest . . . . I would advise against the purchase of any d-certs except in the very last resort because U.K. ones are not worth the paper on which they are written in 99% of the time. I have Chip. Sod burial info. for many years but may not have your Samuel's.
Regards
Chas

4th March 1838 St James Wick and Abson Samuel Hall aged 77
Wick & Abson were in Chipping Sodbury registration district
1841 census HO107 363/1 enumeration schedule 22 Ridge? Gate Wick and Abson Sarah Hall 60 Baker Jacob Hall 20 Ag lab Hannah Hall 20 Ann Hall 15
al born Gloucestershire - 1851 children all born Wick and Abson, Sarah born Henbury aged 70
(adult ages - those over 15, usually rounded down to the nearest 5 on the 1841 census)
Though English and Welsh (I wouldn't say the same for Scottish) death certificates give only limited information they can nevertheless unearth unknown and surprising information that lead you to very interesting records you wouldn't other wise have considered pursuing - newspapers, asylum, prison records to name a few. Without obtaining some death certificates I would never have found out so much interesting and rewarding information.

Dear Valda,
Thank you. You have eliminated the 1838 Samuel Hall for me as my fellow would have been about 48+.
To save you searching further, I already have the Freebmd 1847 death of a Samuel Hall. He is my ancestor dying in Frampton Cotterell. I just not sure of where he was born.
Thank you for all your helpful comments. Gazania
