In need of desparate help
« on: Thursday 17 April 08 12:53 BST (UK) »

Hey everyone...

Im incredibly stuck on my family tree at the moment and would greatly appreciate any help possible....

Ive traced my GGG grandad Joseph Mawby to being born and died, in Crick, Northamptonshire, 1813-1884. He has had several occupations in his life, from being a felt monger, to a agricultural labourer, to a general dealer. He was married to an Elizabeth Crofts and stayed all his life in Crick, Northamptonshire. I dont have a marriage certificate as i dont know the exact date as to when they married.

I have possible parents of Joseph, William (abt 1781 from the 1841 census) and Mary (abt 1781 from the same census). Both born in Crick, Northamptonshire. All i know about william is that he was an agricultural labourer in 1841, and i cannot find either after 1841.

And that is where i am stuck. I cant seem to find out any other information about William Mawby and Mary to see if they are connected to my GGG Grandad.

If anyone has any information related to this i would greatly appreciate any assistance and help

Thanks in advance,

Kat.

Hi sandy,

Thanks Smiley I dont know who mary, 13 belongs to though, as i havent been able to find out any siblings to Joseph 1813, or children to william and mary, other than Joseph...

As far as i am aware, Joseph's eldest child was an Anne Mawby, born abt 1845...

hmm thats interesting... Dont know if this is related or not, but ive just entered hopkins in my tree to see if any hints appear, and i received one for the 1851 census for a Mary Hopkins, Widow, Pauper but born in Kettering, Northampton...

What makes it interesting is that Joseph (1813-1884), Mary and William's son is one house away from Mary Hopkins in the census...

Is it possible in that time period for a woman to use her maiden name after being widowed?

This looks like the marraige of Joseph to Elizabeth

Getting the cert will give father's name and occupation, then you can see where to go next

Marriage
JAN/FEB/MAR 1841
Joseph Mawly
also on page Elizabeth Croft

Rugby reg distr (I believe covers Crick?)

Not usually Kat.

Although one of the other family members may have married a Mawby.

On the 1841 Census next family by Joseph Pubican is Joseph Farmer aged 50.

Maybe some one can look in the Parish Records for you for Some link to the family.

Was still briefly interesting that they are in the same street, both the right ages!! Oh well Cheesy

Yes, ive already looked in to that family. Unfortunately they dont click together at all... Only have the same surname... The farmer has 100 acres of farmland all the way through to his death i believe...

Ah thanks Lizdb,  that will be another certificate to order lol!

And yes i believe that Rugby does cover crick, I was given this site which tells you all the parish districts
