Hi Marlow Mags

I live across the road from the old workhouse buildings and the cemetery ..... literally a stone's throw .....it's my view! and Worleston and Alvaston are 5 mins away up the road so feel free to ask if you need any help, photos etc!!

Hi Sarah thank you so much for your offer i did not know the old workhouse was still standing it is so sad to think Frances died there do you know where Olive cottage is i think that is where Frances worked as a domestic servant it was  in Alvaston i am presuming Frances was buried in a public grave if she was in the workhouse she is buried in St Mary`s Nantwich
i will take you up on your offer later for photo`s i am planning to put all the family tree with photo`s ect in albums for my grandchildren as i think it is so important to know their roots and understand how hard life was then
once again many thanks

If you are not from the area you could well be confused.
200 Alvaston is the Nantwich Workhouse. It is on the Barony Road and is also known as 200 The Barony and also as 200 Vauxhall because that is the name of the area. Also Barony Road used to be called Worleston Road because it leads to Worleston which is a couple of miles away. The road alonside the Workhouse leads to Alvaston about a mile away.
The grave yard is right next to the Workhouse (which became The Barony Hospital) and this the graveyard for St Mary's but later had its own chapel and became All Saints.
There is newer graveyard opened in about 1880 a couple of hundred yards away in Whitehouse Lane - this is also the town cemetery.
The burial records for the new graveyard are held at Crewe Cemetery Office and are quite complete.
FHSC have surveyed the old graveyard and have published a list of graves and names. There is also the original plan and records at the CRO but these is not complete.
