Hiya
Trying to think laterally - along canal / river lines
Lan-OPC has: Marriage: 2 Feb 1824 St Wilfrid, Farnworth near Prescot, Lancashire, England John Pendlebury - (X), Flat man of this Parish Jane Hitchmough - (X), Spinster of this Parish
Only way to check this is to get baby Jane's birth registration from 1840.
John Pendlebury & Sarah (Cox) & their children (baptised at St Elphin's, Warrington) are on the 1841 census at Pottery Row, Warrington - he is an engineer.
Baptisms may just be an issue about the waterman's way of life or not all records being available online
I know how challenging the boatmen are - I have a gaggle of "flatmen" myself

Hi Sue
Might be worth looking up the old maps but I think Farnworth by Prescot was cheek by jowl with Appleton, where some of the children were baptised?
Also, this will be another of those Lancashire / Cheshire cross-border skirmishes
I think the Flatmen were mostly on the Mersey & the river Douglas & Farnworth was near the Widnes dock with huge exports of coal going through to all points.
