Baptism of William Cocks
« on: Thursday 17 April 08 18:32 BST (UK) »

Hi

I have posted in the past looking for the baptism of William Cocks.  This would have been c1816 in (according to the census) Hampton Wick.  Unfortunately nobody has been able to help me.

Could anyone tell me where I would be likely to find the parish records please Smiley

Many thanks

Hi KPM

According to Phillimores Atlas, there are no surviving registers for Hampton Wick prior to 1831  Sad

Hi Pauline and Dawn

Many thanks to you both for your replies.

According to the link from Pauline there are some parish records for St Mary's church at Twickenham library so I may be lucky there.

It would be a real shame if there really are no surviving registers prior to 1831.

Thanks again to you both and please keep your finders crossed for me Grin

Not sure if this is of any help, but I did find a William Cock during my researches, who was a farmer in Chiswick.  Might be the same family.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply.  Not sure yet whether there is a connection but I certainly wont rule it out - i'll get all my old paper trees out over the next few days and see whether any names tie in.

Thanks again for your help

Hi KPM

Did you get anything from Twickenham?

There appears to be copies of Hampton's registers at the London Metropolitan Archives.

Hi Dawn

I e-mailed Twickenham but they no longer hold any records there and they directed me to the LMA.

I think I need to plan a visit to London at sometime in the near future!  I don't know whether they provide a look up service but that may also be another option.

Thanks for your help

I'm still doing LMA look-ups (see the top of the London & Middx boards) on a 2-weekly basis, the other weeks I'm at the Westminster Archives. The LMA charge from £30 for research.

All being well, I'm going tomorrow, I'll have a look to see what they have.

Hi Anne-Marie

The LMA has microfilm copies of the registers of St Mary's Hampton (no Wick) covering the dates you are looking for.

I didn't get time today to look but I'll be going again in 2 weeks time so I'll take this with me and have a look for you then.

Hi Anne-Marie

The LMA the parish registers for Hampton

I checked the baptism registers from 1814-1820 and found only this

1814 6 April Elizabeth daughter of William & Elizabeth Cocks (Abode) Hampton Wick (Quality Trade or Profession) Sawyer

so then I went back and checked 1810-1813 but still didn't find anything for a son, William

Then I checked the marriages from 1800-1820 but didn't find a marriage for William & Elizabeth

I did find

18 Aug 1811 Joseph Cocks & Amelia Linsdale

17 Nov 1814 Richard Cox & Elizabeth Moorcroft

So no news on William jnr but it looks like he had a sister.

Hi Dawn

Thank you so much for checking the Parish Records for me.  Hopefully, now I know William jnr had a sister, she may lead me to further information.

I really do appreciate the time you have spent looking into this for me.
