Hi
Seeking assistance with any census, parents and records related to Margaret West b.1792 Stonehouse.

As you have no doubt found there is no Margaret W - or any other Stonehouse West for that matter - given in the IGI as submitted or extracted from any years and I can confirm from my transcription of Stonehouse BT's that the LDS have not missed her out of their C batch in 1792.
If you hope for census info. it is most likely that you'll need her married name for there's no M.W. born in Stonehouse in the 1841 census and by 1851 she'd have been stuck to the shelf! I dare say you've found the M.W. death registered in 1839 from freebmd. The d-cert is unlikely to help but . . . .

Dear Chas
Her married name was Bennett.
A record of her marriage was 1812 Stonehouse East Devonshire. But her husband and family (children) resided Synwell Wotton Under Edge GLS. I think that Devonsh. is too far for a wedding then move back to Wotton Under Edge I have a feeling that is some other Bennett's records and Henry and Margaret married Wotton Under Edge or Stonehouse GLS not Devonshire. No other children listed till 1821 (may have died at birth??) but along time from 1812 to 1821 before starting a family.

Hi Velcro
Have looked through the marriage index, sorry no trace of a Margaret West marriage to Henry Bennett.
Do you have these baptisms for children of Henry and Margaret Bennett?
Wotton under Edge, unless specified
William 2nd April 1815 * Henry 5th October 1817 Kings Stanley St. George
Then in 1820 Henry and Margaret were in the workhouse where Sarah was born, baptised 16th July 1820
again in the workhouse in 1822 William 28th July 1822, born 6th June 1822
Nathl 22nd May 1825, born 24th April 1825 Mary 5th December 1827 John 15th January 1832 Maria 7th June 1835
* Burial 31st January 1817 Kings Stanley St. George, William Bennett aged 2

Dear Susan It has taken me years I mean years to expand on this family. I was going to put them in the "too hard basket". So ther married of Henry and Margaret Bennett 1812 (prior records stated in Devonshire but it was too far from Wotton Under Edge or Kings Stanley. So must have been a major error.Thank you for making it more clear and realistic to my understanding and clearing my frustrations. The St George was in Kings Stanley. I must take a look at the proximity of Kings Stanley and Synwell Wotton Under Edge as this is where the family circulated.
I only ever had records of 4 out of the 11 children. Thank you ever so much for assisting in the baptisms of the other children. Is there death record for Henry b. 1817? Later Margaret had another child (last one as far as I know) Henry b. about 1839 (any records of him in Wotton Under Edge) m. Harriet Grimes. (my direct link.) The workhouse what is this place?? A factory? Will have to look this one up also.Is it in Wotton Under Edge or Kings Stanley? Do you access to marriage records of the children of Henry and Margaret Bennett?
Hoping one day to find out who Margaret's parents and siblings are?
Much appreciate you assisting me. Been such a long wait and dead ends.
Cheers Velco

I haven't found a death record in the burial index for the Henry Bennett born 1817. Do you have the birth certificate of your Henry? There are two possibles from Freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
Henry Bennett 1838 June qtr. Dursley volume 11 page 300 ditto 1839 March Qtr. Dursley volume 11 page 311
You can order the certificates from the GRO cost £7.00, you can ask for reference checking to ensure you get the correct one, if it is not the correct certificate a portion of the £7.00 is refunded (£4.00, I think ) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
To look for marriages of Henry's siblings, Gloucestershire Family History Society has databases of transcribed BMD registers so would be worth contacting them, see http://www.gfhs.org.uk/index.html

Susan

Thank you for your expertise. No I havent Henry Bennett's birth cert.Near future I will obtain it and hopefully will solve a few questions. Thank you for the sites to lookup. Im sure I will be kept busy sorting out this family. I sure that his marriage place has been incorrectly recorded as Devonshire but is actually Kings Stanley St George. GLS. I have been assisted with 7 more children that I never had so this has filled alot of gaps but more research and questions.

Dear Susan
With regards to Henry Bennett's birth records, no not yet to obtaining his birth cert. Will get around to it soon. Two Henry B birth registrations June qtr 1838 and Mar qtr 1839 so as there was a H.B's death registered in the Sept. qtr of 1839 it seems likely that my HB was the former one: but it was often the practice to give a second child the name of an earlier child which had died and if the first was born in April 1838. What do you think? Probably.
Thanks for all the birth records of the other 7 children of Henry and Margaret Bennett long time coming for me. Very greatful for that.
Many thanks for the sites of interest. The workhouse ones are very interesting reading.
Are there any records of Margaret Bennett's birth/ death records? More likely to be Kings Stanley St George. Her death naturally would be after 1839 the birth of my connecting link Henry Bennett m. Harriet Grimes.

Hi Velcro
I have looked through the census and Margaret is consistent with her place of birth, i.e. Stonehouse, Devonshire.
In 1841 they are in Gloucestershire but it says Not born in county for Margaret; 1851 and 1861 Stonehouse, Devonshire. So I believe the marriage in the IGI in East Stonehouse is the correct one, perhaps Henry was plying his trade of Hairdresser in Devon at that time.
I would have thought a remote scenario that the census and the IGI both had the county wrong
There is a death of a Margaret Bennett in Freebmd, 1862 March qtr. Dursley, vol. 6a, page 136.
The only way of knowing which is the correct Henry is to obtain the certificate from the GRO.
Post a request on the Devon board for baptism information of Margaret West, linking back to this thread.
Regards
Susan

Dear Susan Shall follow your suggestions.
There is a Stonehouse not fat from Wotton Under Edge and this leads me to think that both records are incorrect and that she came from Stonehouse GLS not Dev.

Do you know the site in Rootschat where you can compare notes with other researchers that have the same surnames in common?
