Christening - Burcombe Wilton- SMITH or CLARK
« on: Friday 18 April 08 04:51 BST (UK) »

Hello
Does anyone have access to baptism records for Burcombe or Wilton if no church at Burcombe from 1778.  I am looking for Martha (Smith or Clark possibly but these could both be married names).  Going on ages at census records and burial she would have been born latter half of 1778 or first half of 1779.  Apparently she was married to John Smith as Martha Smith 2 Feb 1805 at Burcombe so someone may also be able to check if there is mention of a parent's name there for me. She has used both names alternately in census records 1841-1861 and I am unable to go back any further unless I can find the reason for this.  Her 7 children were baptized as Smith between 1805 and 1824 in Wilton. However her son Frederick was listed with her as Clark in 1841 and parents names on daughter's immigration record were John and Martha Clark.
Any help gratefully received

Burcombe marriage 2 Feb 1805 John Smith otp and Martha Smith, otp, banns, witness Moses Hibberd.   Generally parents names were not given at this time, even into the 19th century.

A possible Burcombe baptism 10 Oct 1773 Martha dau of Robert? Clarke? and Martha.

More likely one in Wilton 26 Apr 1780, born 18 Dec 1778 Martha  dau of William and Hannah Smith.   The same day Joan, born 12 Apr 1780 dau of William and Hannah Smith.

A Wilton marriage 18 Aug 1776 William Smith and Henny (sic) Garrett.
