In the 1881 census my Fewins lived at 27 and 28 Ledra Road St Austell. Would this be St Austell itself? Do these numbers still exist or has re-development long since replaced them? Are any relatives of these Fewins still around St Austell?

Ledrah Road in St Austell still exists and my daughter owns a cottage there at number 37 which she lived in up to a year ago. Numbers 27 and 28 will still be the original cottages but I can't remember which ones they are because some of the cottages aren't actually on Ledrah Road which means that you can't simply count back down the road.
Most of the cottages are terraced and have their frontdoors straight onto the pavement but a few which may include 27 & 28 have gardens between them and the road.
At the end of the road is a very narrow bridge across and straight on up the hill leads you straight into the main shopping centre in about half a mile. The bridge was made pedestrian only a few years ago which meant Ledrah Road became a fairly quiet back water. Many years ago it was the main road to Truro.

Althea's post is of one of three terraced properties which have long front gardens.
The following shows a more typical view of the town end of the road. The left hand of the properties shown, number 45, slightly set back is the end of a terrace of about eight houses of which number 37 is the other end of the terrace.

27 and 28 are possibly the ones shown in the following
http://www.aboutmyplace.co.uk/showmap?id=20017157&type=property&poi=property
The map is slightly wrong as Ledrah Close (I think it is called) which is un-named on the map and contains fairly modern bungalows is opposite number 37
There are a few properties on the right hand side of the road going away from town before the close and I don't know how they fit into the numbering.
