St Ebbe's register of births, 1813/4, Charlotte Robson
« on: Friday 18 April 08 13:39 BST (UK) »

Hi there - I'm hoping someone can help me find a baptism entry for a Charlotte Robson, born around 1813 or 1814 in Oxford.  She was probably baptised at St Ebbe's, based on later census entries for her brother Joseph, although this isn't certain.

Her parents were William Robson (of whom I know nothing) and Maria, who was born in London and has a census trail through to 1861.

What I'm really after is Maria's surname, but if anyone has any other info on this family I'd appreciate it too.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Mac

Her baptism was at St Aldgates church Oxford

1812 July 5th Charlotte d/o William & Maria Robson born 15th April

that's all the info in that entry - I will have a scout round for any siblings etc

Have now found - also at St Aldgates

1814 Jane d/o William & Eliza Robson - Ostler

&

1818 Nov 2 William (postumous) s/o William & Maria Robson - Ostler

so they might have got the mothers name wrong in 1814 and William the father died in 1818

- from the burials St Aldgates
1818 July 23 William Robson aged 50

Joseph & Elizabeth were baptised at St Clements

1810 Oct 3rd twins of William & Maria Robson,  Lodgers

then there is a Mary Maria d/o Joseph & Charlotte Robson (tailor, High Street) baptised at St Clements 1835 feb 25th

Brilliant!  Thank you so much - never expected so much detail so quickly.  What a star!

So now I know William was an Ostler (Charlottes m.c. just says labourer) and Maria was Maria Crommarty!  Although a quick search on the IGI doesn't turn up her baptism - shame.  Still, plenty more avenues to try.

And lots of siblings all over the place - I only had Joseph and a tentative William (I knew about William snr's death and there appears to be more than a 9 month gap, so good to have the confirmation).  I also have a tentative Edward, who pops up in the 51 census in Lincolnshire, born about 1815 in Oxford - any sign of him?

Anyway, thanks again - I've been looking for this for a very long time!

Cheers
