Buckinghamshire lookup please
« on: Friday 18 April 08 16:47 BST (UK) »

I have been kindly helped with a census enquiry but need a little more info to help unscramble my brains please.

Can anyone please access records for one James West b. c1806 in West Wycombe?  He married a Rhoda (?) The earliest info at the moment is from the 1841 census which says Towerage? but I don't know what that means unless its the name of a place.  I wondered if it was at all possible to go back a little further possibly to any siblings he may have had.

I have been 'barking up the wrong tree' so to speak for a while, but I have photos with family resemblances that cannot be ignored.  Help would be gratefully received.  Many thanks.

Thank you so much - at least I now have the possibilty of her surname.  How do I go about finding his parents and possible siblings?  Any ideas - quite new to this.  Regards and thanks again.

Hi

Firstly, Toweridge appears to be an area of West Wycombe.  If you G***gle West Wycombe you will find that the village is National Trust as is West Wycombe Park and the Hell Fire Caves I believe. The A40 road runs through the middle of it.

To find possible baptisms you can look at  http://www.familysearch.org  and select Search for Ancestors.  The marriage was found on the IGI which you can select separately, this marriage is an Extracted entry which has come from Parish Registers beware of submitted entries as they should be treated with caution.

Should you have any problems please don't hesitate to ask there are plenty of us pleased to help.

Hi royd,

If you follow Rosie's advice, you should find -

James West baptised in West Wycombe 27 Oct 1805, son of Thomas & Jane.

There's also a likely baptism for Rhoda -

Rhoda Larner in West Wycombe 3 November 1805 daughter of William & Ann

(There don't appear to be any Larsens in W Wycombe, but there are a few Larners - the parish clerk could easily have written it down wrongly, or the transcriber has misread it.)

In case you didn't know, once you have turned the above baptisms up on the Family Search site, you can find any likely brothers/sisters by clicking on the batch no. (bottom left of the screen). In James West's case this is C073802. On the resulting screen, if you then just enter the surname and parents names, you'll see 3 siblings also baptised in West Wycombe.

I hope I've explained that ok!
