Ann Westwick 1761
« on: Saturday 19 April 08 11:27 BST (UK) »

Has anyone got access to the parsih records for Leeds?
I'm trying to find the baptism of Ann Westwick circa 1861. She married in Durham but on  the baptism entry for one of her children it says she came from Loos or Leed Yorkshire. I can't find a Loos in Yorkshire so it must be Leeds. She isn't on the IGI.
I'd really be grateful for any info.

Regards

Hi French,

Was Ann born circa 1861 or 1761?  The Parish records held in Leeds library end in 1837.  I am happy to have a look for you next time I am in the library if it is 1761.

Best wishes,

Elin

Hello Elin,

Many thanks for your kind offer.

Ann Westwick was born circa 1761 and not 1861, sorry. I've found a baptism on the IGI for a Pharas Westwick, 13 July 1757 and Timothy Westwick, 06 Jan 1761, father Bartholomew Westwick. They were both baptised at St Peter, Leeds.

Ann married in 1785 in St Giles, Durham.

Best regards

Hi French,

Just to let you know that I have been looking up Ann Westwick for you.

Leeds has a large number of Parishes.  I have checked out which ones the library have  that date back to 1761 and am working my way through them.  I will let you know how I get  on.

There is also the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Leeds and they hold Parish records too.  You can have a look at what they hold on line.  I have never been there but I don't mind having a visit there too if we get nowhere  at Leeds Central Library.

Best wishes,  Elin

Hi Elin

I'm really grateful for the time and energy you are giving to a total stranger. As I live in France I can't just pop over to visit the records office so you're kind offer  to help is really appreciated.

I'll have a look online at the West Yorkshire records. I've checked out the Wharfdale and Craven site which has some Leeds records, but no trace of Ann Westwick.
As I said before, she married in 1785 so I presume that she was born 1760-65.

Fingers crossed.

Best regards

French.

Hi French,

It's interesting to do it.  None of my research is local and I have done more on line than anything else.  People have done lookups for me too which has been wonderful!

When I said that West Yorkshire Archives have records online I don't mean that they have searchable database just that they tell you  which dates and  Parishes they hold.

I'll keep my fingers crossed too. Wink

Best wishes,

Elin

Hi French,

Just to let you know that I haven't forgotten you.  I've had a manic week this week and not had a chance to do anything that I had planned at all.

I am sure that there won't be any problems next week and so I should be able to get to the archives again.

Sorry about that,

Elin
