Rowsdenheath
« on: Saturday 19 April 08 12:05 BST (UK) »

I have a reference on the 1841 and 1851 Census for Westley in Cambridgeshire for my 2 x GF being born in "Rowsdenheath" in Essex in about 1818. For his marriage in 1843 in Carlton, Cambridgeshire to Eliza Rivett it gives his father as John, and he an Ag Lab. (CHFS Parish Registers)

I cannot see any Parish or location in Essex, with that name, and I have tried the Essex FHS Website, maps, and even Google. All his near relatives from around that period are Cambridgeshire born and bred. Family History Online and even the IGI do not list his birth.

I have a number of Johns who could be his father so I need to know his mother.
Does anyone have any ideas where I go now?

Peter

And just to tidy things up, here's his baptism entry at Ramsden Crays parish church;

14th February 1819 Joseph Henry Rollison son of John and Rebecca, Ramsden Crays, Labourer. (sic).

Hope this helps.

He's been dogging me for weeks!
I'd knew I'd come to the right place joining this site.
Now onwards and upwards! (well backwards, anyway)
Thank you again,

Hi Diblet,

Thanks very much for finding "chapter and verse" for the baptismal entry. For annotating my "Sources" could I ask for a reference, please?

I.e. is the info from the actual Church Register, a transcript provided by EFHS, or from some other source. There are two of us working separately (and jointly) on this tree and we need to be as detailed as possible.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Peter

Yes, I noticed that Paco seemed to be researching the same names as you, so I hoped you'd link up!

I've got fiche of the actual Ramsden Crays parish registers, so the info. is straight from the vicars pen (so to speak).  Grin

The fiche reference number as catalogued by the Essex Record Office is;

D/P 371/1/5 which covers baptisms from 1813 to 1923 in Ramsden Crays.

All the best with your research.

Diblet,

Thanks very much for the additional info.  That was exactly what we wanted.

Yes, "Paco" is my cousin who is doing the same research. It's suprisingly helpful to be able to collaborate and evaluate discrepancies.  So far we've got back to c. 1650.

Many thanks again.

Peter

Glad I could help.

I think you and Paco need to get together. He/She's put up another Rollison post on the Essex Requests board and it's asking the same things as you!  Huh

Also seems to be a bit angry!!!!!  Wink

Hi Diblet,

Maybe I hit the wrong symbol it was supposed to be a puzzled one with a frown on his face.
