Thomas Young/Thomas Henry Young
« on: Tuesday 08 April 08 13:36 BST (UK) »

Hi there,

I have now discovered that our Thomas was born in Hereford abt 1853/4.
We were suspicious of this in the beginning then we found the one in Shropshire. wE now know shropshire is a no go so are concetrating on Hereford.
I wondered if anyone could discover a birth for a Thomas Henry Young(Thomas) in Hereford abt this date.  His father is another Thomas Young we know this from his marriage certificate to Emma Wells.
On all census he is known as plain Thomas, but family knew him as Thomas Henry and on his wifes death certificate he is also Thomas Henry . Any help would be appreciated we have tried all census reports for that area and have come up with nothing apart from Thomas Young in 1871 working as a servant aged 15 yrs  in Herefordshire. Whether this is right remains to be seen as this means he was born later than census tells us.

Sorry I thought I said he was given as a mechanic.  I have treid endless sites, census BMD but no joy.  I wondered as on some BMD Worcester is given as Hereford dist maybe that would be a way to go bu this is even harder. I have found a birth 1852 Thomas Henry Young (Which is the name his family knew him by) Sept Qtr 1852 Vol 6c; Pg. 240 Worcester - hereford and Worcerstershire; Will have to think about that;  i can get no follow ups on this birth either  - eise

Thank you willow,

I will look that up but i think it may be too close to london to be ours, however one never can tell and carman could be mechanic;  Eise

Hi Carol,

The witness's make hard reading.  One is Emmas sister i believe, Margaret Wells.
the other is very difficult to transcribe.  It could be anything but it deifinatly isnt young or Wells.
It isnt a name i am familiar with among our family names either.  I will have to get it transcribed properly   eise

Hiya Eise

I might be worth the cost of the certificate for the birth in 1862 to see if it is a match. The enumerator can only put what hes told on the census so maybe Thomas believed he was born in Herefordshire - its strange that he doesnt name a town though

Have you seen Blanche in the 1901 census?
