Hi, carrena, and welcome to Rootschat!
May I make a suggestion? If you modify the title of your post to include his name and also his birth info, it might help someone spot your post if they are also looking for the same person.
Oliver is a fairly common surname. (I've got Olivers from Scotland in my direct line and Olivers from England in a branch of one of my families.)
What part of England was Charles W. Oliver from?
For example, I have a Charles Leonard Oliver who was born in Gillingham or New Brompton, Kent in 1895.
What part of the U.S. did he settle in?
Regards, Josephine

carrena,
I have a few more questions for you.
When you say family, do you mean the descendants of Charles W. Oliver?
Who are Charles J. and Mary J?
Do you know the exact date and place in Florida where Charles W. Oliver died?
Regards, Josephine

Just so you're aware, Fairfield is both a town and a county in Connecticut. Charles lived in the town of Bridgeport in Fairfield County in 1910.
In the 1910 Brideport city directory: Oliver, Charles W emp S Mfg Co bds 106 Pembroke Oliver, Edward H emp B S Co h 106 Pembroke
1914 Bridgeport directory: Oliver, Charles emp S T Mfg Co h 254 State Oliver Edward H emp B S Co h 106 Pembroke
1916 Bridgeport directory: Edward H. Oliver is still employed at the same place and living at 144 Pembroke, but the only Charles listed is Charles P., an accountant living at 390 Pembroke.
1919 Bridgeport directory: Charles Oliver with no middle initial is employed at 1049 Main and rooms at 739 Broad. Edward H. Oliver emp WBrosCo h 144 Pembroke
It may just be coincidence, but there is a Charles W. Oliver listed in the Hartford, Connecticut directories from around 1928 to 1939. His wife was listed as Madeline E.
There is a border crossing with Charles from Canada to the US from Nov. 1913. If you need that information, let me know.
Josephine, if I'm looking at the right guy, per the Florida death index and SSDI, Charles William Oliver died 25 Feb 1977 in Osceola Co., Florida. He last resided in Saint Cloud, Osceola, Florida and his last SS benefit was sent to Manhattan Beach, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota. Charles J. and Mary J. appear to be Charles' children, from the 1930 Census.
I found a passenger list from the SS Lapland from Southampton to NY, arriving 26 Sep 1925. It has Charles William Oliver, Charles John Oliver, and Mary Joy Oliver with the children's birth dates. They were both born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It says Charles W. was naturalized in the Superior Court Fairfield Bridgeport on 6 May 1925. They were living at 125 W. 169th St., Bronx, New York. The younger Charles' birth date was 30 Apr 1921, which matches with an entry in the Social Security Death Index which has his death date as Jan 1970. Using Mary's birth date with no last name listed, there were 100 entries on the SSDI, so I'm not sure if she's living or not. I can send you her birthdate via PM, if you'd like.
It appears that the elder Charles was fighting for Canada in WWI. There is a WWII Draft Registration Card for Charles William Oliver, born 14 Aug 1888 in Bridgenorth, England. His place of residence was 2227 E. 18th St., Brooklyn, N.Y. His mailing address was 2601 Granby St., Norfolk, Virginia. The person who would always know his address was Mrs. Nellie Jones, 25 Beardsley St., Bridgeport, Conn. His employer was Mr. Alan Caldwell, Burns and Roe Constr. Co. Naval Base, Norfolk, Va. He was white, 5 feet 3 inches tall, 164 pounds, blue eyes, blonde hair and bald, a light complexion, and a scar on the right knee.

carrena,
Here's my suggestion:
1. Write to the local library and ask for Charles W.'s obit. This should tell you the names and locations of living descendants at the time.
Osceola County, Florida Libraries: http://www.osceolalibrary.org/
2. If the obits list a funeral home and cemetery, write to them for any info they have on file. Ask the cemetery who else is buried with Charles and the name of the current owner of the plot. Ask if they'll help you get in touch with him/her.
3. Once you know when and where his (and possibly Charles J.'s) descendants were living, ask the local libraries to check city directories for them. Cross your fingers and hope they stayed in one city for a while. If the libraries can't do it, ask on Rootschat or check Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness for a volunteer in those cities: http://www.raogk.org/
4. Write to the local newspapers and ask if they will publish your query.
Regards, Josephine

I found Mary on the Social Security Death Index. The birth date matches what was on the 1925 passenger list.
Mary Joy Vaughn Born 03 Sep 1922 Died 29 May 2003 Last residence and last benefit - Cocoa Beach, Brevard County, Florida SS number issued in New York
On the Cocoa Beach library's Frequently Asked Questions page, there is a link to a site that has obituaries: http://www.brev.org/help/faq.htm The website that they link to isn't working for me right now.
