Hello Everyone,
Please could someone help me out with some information about Mary Jane Darling Pearson, born abt 1854 in Quarryburn, Hunwick, Co Durham.
On her marriage cert to Henry Reynolds in 1874 her fathers details were left blank. We presume that she was an illegitimate child?
I am looking for a possible entry for Mary Jane Darling Pearson's christening and any information that may lead to finding her mother or father?
There is a conflict of opinion about who her mother is. The best we can come up with is Mary Pearson born abt 1817 in Kelloe, Co Durham? This is taken from 1861 census. Her mother if this is correct did not marry at all, we cannot find a marrige for her?
We have found her in these census
1861 - RG9 3755 Folio 72 page 2 1871 - RG10 4984 Folio 9 page 11
As married Mary Jane Darling Reynolds
1881 - RG11 4951 Folio 111 page 8 1891 - RG12 4096 Folio 97 page 22 1901 - RG13 4677 Folio 99 page 38
Thanks for looking

The 1861 has Mary seniors age and birthplace and that she was unmarried - have you checked the 1841 census for her which may give you further information
The 1851 has her as a servant
Is there any IGI entry for her?
Unusual middle name so I wonder if it could be Mary seniors mothers maiden name?
It may be worthwhile checking the IGI for all female Darling marriages to see if they married a Pearson

Hi again CaroleW,
Thanks for your replies. I've not been able to narrow her down enough in the 1841 searches, so that census search remains inconclusive for the time being.
IGI again is inconclusive and I've not come near to finding her or any relation or marriage with people who may have been called Darling or Pearson.
Oh well the search goes on, I am always open to suggestions but I get the feeling this one is going to be a tough one to crack.

Re: 1841. Ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years so as Mary was 24 in 1841 she would become 20 and her birthyear 1821
What about this 1841 entry for Kelloe?

There is Mary Pearson baptism in Kelloe for 3 March 1816 3rd d/o John Pearson and Jane LaHue, labourer, Kelloe Out Barn
I don't see any of the other children baptised there at Kelloe. Except for an Isabella in 1814 with the same parents and born in Kelloe Out Barn, John was a husbandman there.

Hi Janis,
Thankyou, that is Mary's baptism and I already had an Isabella. Looking into their parents John and Jane LaHue has turned the family up in 1841 & 1851 with more children namely John 1816, William 1821 and Anthony 1826. There are two grandchildren mentioned on the 1851 census namely Henery? 1841 and John 1843, but not sure of their parents. Could be John or William possibly?
Jane (La Hue) Pearson was a widow by 1851. (HO 107 2393 page 439)
