Hi
I hope someone maybe able to help in a search.
I have a Thomas Newton born 1848/9 Sutton in Ashfield to father Septimus Newton and mother Grace.
I know Thomas married in 1871 to Mary Blackler in Plymouth Devon. Had 3 children although 1st child maynot be his as george was born 1868/9 Plymouth Devon. Thomas was on his marriage cert was  a seaman merchant services / Royal navy.
in 1873 Mary remarried stating she was a widow.
I have never found a death for Thomas although I did send for a cert of a Thomas Newton in Snenton in 1872 died of Smallpox but not sure if his was him or not cert says he was a miner. The age is right and the year if Mary remarried in 1873, any help would be appreciated in this matter. Thomas also had a brother William I have not been able totrace him either he was about 10years older.

I wonder if its possible that Miner was put down instead of Mariner on the death cert  Undecided

Hi

   Notts FHS transcripts had a Thomas Newton born 26.8.1847, christened 21.9.1847 at Sutton In Ashfield, Parents Septimus/Grace. No trace of William as yet.

William's birthplace is probably Derbyshire

William isn't with the family in 1851 - do you have this census? In 1851 there is also an 8 year old son called Edwin born Holbrook Derbyshire

Was the maiden name of Grace - Hall?

If so William is with his grandfather in 1851 in Belper which registers in Duffield

I suspect I have 'hit' on the incorrect William in 1851 as there is a birth of a William Newton in 1840 in Belper to a Jeffrey and Ann.

Might be wise to ignore this

What else do you know about him? How did you know that Thomas had this brother?

SEPTIMUS1 NEWTON was born 1809 in Heanor, Derby.  He married GRACE BEMBRIDGE 04 Jul 1836 in Duffield.  She was born 1808 in Horsley, Derby.

     

Children of SEPTIMUS NEWTON and GRACE BEMBRIDGE are:

                   i.    WILLIAM2 NEWTON, b. 1839, Holbrook.

2.               ii.    EDWIN NEWTON, b. 1843, Holbrook Delphine.

                 iii.    THOMAS NEWTON, b. 1848, Holbrook.

So, can I assume from this that we don't know if he survived childhood?  - I was rather hoping you had found him somewhere at a later date Undecided

Sorry not replied before been in Spain nice sunshine no Rain!!

William was with family but then just vanished he was not with them when Thomas was 14 but then he was 9/10years  older, May have died or moved on but such a comon name loads of deaths not sure.
