Yardley Worcestershire
« on: Monday 09 November 09 17:36 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me please?

One of my 4th gt grandmothers was Elizabeth Marston (her married name) and I have been able to track her in the

1841 Census her address being The Causeway and she is shown as a widow.  Her estimated date of birth is 1771 and she was born in the County. My 3rd gt grandmother is there as her daughter, her name being Hannah Thornhill (nee Marston born about 1807 Yardley).  I am aware I have to give or take 5 years.

1851 Census again her address is The Causeway and her daughter, Eliza is with her.  This time, possibly more accurately her birth date is given as 1766 and says she was born in Yardley, Worc.

I believe she died in June 1851 as I have found any entry for Solihull which covers Yardley.

I do not know the name of her husband (my 4th gt grandfather) and wondered if anyone had any idea how I might find this out as I have tried to find this out for a long time.

I do not have the marriage details of her daughter, Hannah Marston (ref above) who married Henry Thornhill.

I do have quite a alot of information regarding Hannah and Henry Thornhill but I do  not have their marriage details and cant seem to find them.

I really hope someone is able to help me progress with this part of y tree.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Hi

Both FreeREG & the IGI seem not to cover the period yet.

You could try ordering the film of the parish register for the period from the LDS Church and then examining them for a week or two at one of their Family History Centres.  Worcestershire county record office is also a recognised Family History Centre.

However, if you went there you should best first use the BMSGH (Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry) Worcestershire County Marriage Index.  For Grooms it covers 1660 to 1837.
If you join BMSGH you may use their own library in the centre of Birmingham.  It's not the council library.

If you live a distance away then post is the answer.  See http://www.bmsgh.org/search/Wo_marr_index.html for details.  BMSGH members get a discount.

Don't forget that ALL indexes are prone to error and you need to see an original image.  Also hunting through the baptisms, and sometimes burials will usually give you the siblings as well.  Thus your tree expands and the chance for making contacts increases.

Cheers

Mike

Hi

Thanks for your reply and the information.

I will make contact with the BMSG as I have lots of ancestors from this region.

In the meantime, if anyone has access to the Yardley registers I would be glad to hear from them.

Thanks again.
