I am trying to find the baptism and parents of Peter Chalmers born about 1793. He died 1838 in Aylesford, Strood, Kent aged 50. He married Sarah Ann about 1818 I think and had 5 children between 1819 and 1829 all Strood/Rochester in Kent.
Any help with this family would be appreciated.
Thank you

The children are baprised at Rochester Saint Margaret, according to the IGI, with two daughters baptised 1 August 1819. Looking at the PRs there was a son baptised the same day as well, George.
Having three children baptised the same day more than likely means Peter and Sarah Ann were married condiderably earlier than 1818, possibly as far back as 1814. No birthdates indicated to pinpoint this a bit more.
Peter's occupation was a Cooper.
Saint Margaret's registers are fairly well indexed and the indexes are also available on the Medway Cityark site, a bit further on than the refs to the main registers. It might pay to check the burials as well to see if there were others that you do not know about.

Thank you for your help. I wasn't aware of the cityark website and now have the baptisms but not a marriage for Peter yet! Is there a way to search the indexes using a surname or do you have to view each image? Thanks again Mel

I'm afraid it's generally a case of opening the images to see what's within
There is an ongoing marriage index to the cityark registers 1837+ http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~fleming/cityark.htm and, of course, the IGI http://www.familysearch (incomplete) can be a shortcut. A few registers do have an index on the front or back covers but this is usually indicated with the notes for each register.
