Where is Elsworth?
« on: Sunday 16 January 05 16:26 UTC (UK) »

Please can anybody help.  I have an Edward Shaw born in 1841 but
the 1871 census has ELSWORTH for place of birth.  I have looked on a map
& tried the internet to no avail.
The eldest child in the family was born in Hepworth in 1837, then another daughter again I think Hepworth in 1839.
I have a question mark for Edward for Hepworth or Beverley but Elsworth no. The next child was born in Beverley in 1843 which is why
I've put a query here in case its Beverley area.
The only Elsworth I have found is in Cambridge which is highly unlikely.

A big thank to anyone who can solve my problem.  I suppose it could be a transcriping error but of where?

Can't help you with Elsworth, but have found Edward's brother on the 1891 census, details below:-

Great Crosby, Lancaster, St John's, RG12/2982 folio 31 page 4, address 55 South Road.

Sarah Shaw H Widow 83 Bridlington
Sophia Shaw Visitor 44 Hepworth
John Morris Shaw Son 47 Beverley
Ann Botham Servant 57 Stockport

at least this gives you Edwards mothers name as Sarah, and where she comes from.
