Calling Miss Marples Please...! COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Monday 21 April 08 10:15 BST (UK) »

Kia Ora
Hoping someone may be able to help!

On 6 December 1889  Jane Fletcher Spinster 22 of no profession married at St Silas Church Lozelles Lozelles.
Her residence was 10 Regent? Regal ? Place.
Her father was William Edward Fletcher (dec'd) Jeweller.

I have Jane and her brood in 1891 in Aston Manor (RG 12 /2429) & in 1901 26 Roland Rd Handsworth.

I think Jane's birth was registered Sept Q 1867 Birmingham.

I think by 1881 Jane is living with her mother Ann & siblings. Ann  was to remarry  to Edward Bailey in Dec Q 1881 ??

I also note that in 1881 there is a William Fletcher aged 38, unmarried, living as a boarder who is a Jeweller! Huh

Might anyone be able to find Jane in 1871 for me?
I'd love to know the details of birthplaces/occupations etc .
I cannot seem to find a suitable death for William!
And the ages birthplaces might help me find her mother's maiden name etc. Ditto the father! Is he really William Edward??

Any help solving this puzzle would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Marlene

This may be William Edward in 1851:

HO107/2062 folio 162 p35
21 Wills Street, Aston

Richard Harper Head Mar 58 Gun finisher Scotland
Amy do Wife Mar 60 Warwicksh. Birm.
Elizabeth do Daur U 23 Dress maker do do
Susannah do Daur U 18 Warehouse woman do do
Susannah Smith Sister U 62 Formerly warehouse woman do do
William E. Fletcher Nursed child U 9 Scholar do do.

You may be aware that "nursechild" or "nursed child" was used to denote an arrangement similar to what we think of as fostering today.

Possible baptism from IGI (extracted):

William Edward FLETCHER

25 Aug 1844 St Thomas, Birmingham

son of

Edward Padburn FLETCHER and Ruch (sic)

No other children of this couple appear on IGI, nor does any marriage of theirs, even if you change her name to Ruth.

Kia Ora Debbie and Anna
It seems you have solved most of my problems while I had dinner and helped elderly mother to bed! THANK YOU!

I had become a wee bit lost as I have a very short time on Ancestry at our local library and was misled by something that may be answered by your last post Anna!

Jane F married Elisha Fairy who can be found on the 1871 with HIS adoptive parents, John and Sarah WEBB. His name was changed to Harry Elisha Fairy Webb by the 1881!
Interestingly the next entry is for an Edward Webb! Wife Ann! The RG ref has been cut off my copy but it's All Saints!

So you have given me plenty to think about! Would it be possible to give me an address for the 1871 to see if Jane & Elisha lived nearby to each other?

Thanks again
