Yes Donna, I am searching for Logans in Lanarkshire, particularly Glasgow. The earliest confirmed Logan in Glasgow I have is John Logan b 1867 who married Margaret O'Brien in 1885. His occupation is listed as a general labourer, hers as a shawl fringer.
His father is listed on the marriage certificate as Hugh Logan, b. abt. 1842, mason's labourer, mother Mary McNicol. I am not sure if they were born in Scotland or Ireland, but I haven't found anything on them yet.
Do you see any connections?
Nina

Hello Nina: One of my ancestor's sisters married a Logan, William Logan ( 1856), son of William Logan and Marion Sanderson, married Mary Edgar( 1866-1941). Her parents were Eliza Jane Wilson and James Edgar. They were from Ireland.
I have Mary and William on the 1901 census, on Forth Street. I forget if he was born in Ireland( I don't think so). He was an iron foundry worker. This is all I have of the Logans; I don't know if we have a connection. If I find anything concrete, I will let you know. Donna

Donna,
Any particular Dicksons from the Glasgow area? My Dicksons originate in Dumfriesshire but some moved to Glasgow where my Great-Grandfather Thomas Dickson (Blacksmith) died in 1932.
Cheers
Mick

Hello Mick: Here is all my Dickson information. I will start with the most recent and work backward. My grandmother was Christina Smith Dickson, daughter of Thomas Charles Dickson( Nov , 1866-March 1933). His parents were Thomas Dickson (1841-1902) and Christina Clark Dow. Thomas' parents were William Dickson (1802-1875) and Janet Fisher. William's parents were William Dickson and Elizabeth Scoular.
I will include 18881 census data and you can check for anything familiar. I also have other census information if you think there might be a link. I find it interesting that your relative was Thomas Dickson and died almost the same time as my Thomas. Do you have his death cert, or is it by family memory? Donna

Hi Donna,
No connection here, my Thomas Dickson was born 18 Jul 1856 in Mouswald to Jacob Dickson & Jane Wells married a Mary Broun (Brown) from Urr Kirkcudbright in Glasgow 24 Mar 1876. They had 8 Children, only two being born in the Glasgow area (Mary b. 26 Oct 1882 Plantation Lanark and Jacob b. 15 May 1880 d. 21 Jun 1883 at Plantation ). The 1881 census has the family at 24 Muir Place Rutherglen Lanark. 1891 they were back in Torthorwald Dumfries but by 1901 were at 29 Webster St Bridgeton Glasgow. Mary died 28 Jun 1913, 17 Carstairs Street Glasgow. Thomas remarried in 1914 to Marion Blair in Calmachie Glasgow, living at 38 Webster Street Glasgow. Thomas died 8 Jul 1932 at 253 Duke St Glasgow. His daughter Mary was a Dressmaker who married a Tailor , Alexander Dennison, she died in 1930 in Glasgow.
We have had to do this the hard way as my father has dementia and all his siblings are dead and the family was very disfunctional from 1960s. Our connection to Scotland died in 1941 with my grandmother, Agnes Neilson, 24 years before I saw the light of day. I have a whole line of Thomas Dickson's starting with Thomas Dickson b. 1 Apr 1790 in Mouswald to Richard & Elspeth Dickson who married Mary Glendinning in Mouswald. We found heaps of others that were born at same time..ish same area all the way along the line, even marry women of the same name sometimes. So it has been hard to sort the chaff from the wheat as they say.
Cheers

HI: Sorry about your dad. This family research is tough; some people in my family refuse to answer any questions at all. They wonder why anyone would bother. It just makes me think they are hiding something and I search all the harder. It's too bad there is no connection. I have a Dickson contact who took me back to 1642, so I did not have to try to hard there. However one of my lines is John and Jane Smith!! I don't think that will go anywhere- too common. Oh well as long as you enjoy the hunt! As they say- it keeps you off the streets1 Good luck. Donna
