Could Benjamin have outlived his wife? This is a Benjamin Bowman transcribed as Dowman.

That's a great find, Janice, but Sophia is alive and well in 1911, just can't find her in 1901... Sophia's death info was back here... http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300289.msg1825422
Look at that poor Benjamin Janice found...Five Capital Bs in a row and still couldn't get it right...Surely is a "B" though, isn't it...

Hi Karen,
Just wondering a couple of things: 1st, could she simply decided not to be part of the 1901 census? I know some people do that.
And, did she come to Canada with a family member or friend and/or was she "sponsored" by one?
Also wondering if there would be civic (tax, property, etc) and/or church records (membership, etc) in Ingersol that would place her (and possibly husband) there in 1901?
I looked for info too Karen but came up dry - nothing that hasn't already been memtioned by the others. Anyway, perhaps an RCer in the Ingersol area can scrounge around town hall and the local churches for you :-)

Good Morning everyone!!
Janice thanks for that information, I have emailed a lady on the Ontario Cemetery Resources to see if she can find Benjamin buried in Fenelon Falls.
JJ, that Wm and Ann Ellis looks promising I think? I wish I could find her on the 1851 or even a marriage for them.
Fenelon Falls isn't that big a town, and it's only about an hour and half from me, I'm thinking road trip
JDC you could be right, would be my luck that they weren't on it.
Hmm, I've got an 8 year old who couldn't decide what shoes to wear to school today and has now missed the bus, so now I've got to drive her

Yikes, a shoe fanatic at eight?... You are in for it, aren't you?
I know you know this but posting for the ages as she isn't on the 1881, and this couple also awol on 1901... Married Feb. 10 1880 Archibald WILSON age 27 - physician, Manvers, Fenelon Falls parents Archibald WILSON and Susanna SUTTON Mary Eliza BOWMAN age 24 - Hope, Fenelon Falls Benjamin BOWMAN & Sophia ELLIS Witnesses are sister Jane & husband John Maynard...who are on the 1901
Do you have the particulars for the other son William? This is the only feasible one on the 1901 for him as children born post 1881 http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census/ViewFrame.jsp?id=71405&highlight=4

I think this book should be a must find for you. It looks like it's available through interlibrary loan.
The Canadian Album: Men of Canada : Or, Success by Example, in Religion ... By William Cochrane, John Castell Hopkins, W. J. Hunter Page 118
He then located in Fenelon Falls, and began to practice his profession, and has now (1892) a ... eldest daughter of Benjamin Bowman, Esq., of Fenelon Falls. ... Amicus http://amicus.collectionscanada.ca/aaweb-bin/aamain/itemdisp?sessionKey=999999999_142&itm=000005350452

Just heard back from the lady about the cemeteries in Fenelon Falls, she can find nothing of Benjamin there but, she did send me the 1891 census for...
Archibald Wilson, Doctor, age 37 Mary, wife, age 33 Violet, age 10 Lillian, age 8 Archibald, age 6 George, age 4 Edward Haston, age 24, born England John Bowman, age 20, born Ontario, harness maker
So....at least now I know my gr grandfather was living with his sister in Fenelon Falls in 1891

Hello Karen
Here is another birth for Benjamin and Sophia.
061215-71 Victoria County Bowman not given b. 16 July 1871 Father Benjamin Bowman lumberer Mother Sophia Ellis Infirm-Dr Fitzgerald-Fenelon Falls
Looks like a stillbirth with no name given.
Another little bit of information about Findlay McDougall on the 1911 Census
b. 15 July 1851 Glasgow, Lanark, Scot
Father John McDougall
Mother Sarah Moffat
From ScotsOrigins
Anyone run accross a marriage for Benjamin and Sophia yet ?
Trying to put together a time line.
Benjamin could have married Sophia about 1858 0r 59 . According to 1881 Census for Dundas County,Ont,
Morrisburg oldest child William born c 1859,Maud b 1864 and John b. 1871
I think marriage registrations started in 1867 ; could check Parish records.
When did Benjamin die? Anyone find a death.

Not sure if all copies of the book are the same, but I found the 1896 version online.

It looks like it will only be the 1891 versiion. (Found a way to get a bit more information on the quote
to Miss Minnie, eldest daughter of Benjamin Bowman, Esq., of Fenelon Falls Does that name sound familiar, and could she have been married to a doctor or lawyer etc.?
Here it is on Our Roots, but I still can't find the quote.
